Lakeside Lutheran routs Waterloo;

Warriors improve to 3-1 in Capitol Conference race
LAKE MILLS — Lakeside Lutheran racked up nine pins and one technical fall in a 65-16 victory over Waterloo in a Capitol Conference
dual meet Thursday. Seniors John Rhodes (171 pounds), Marc Liechty (189) and Mark Heyn (215) extended their personal unbeaten streaks in the conference with pins. Senior Justin Koller (160) scored a 21-6 technical fall over Aron Davison to improve to 2-1 in the conference. "These young men continue to push each other forward, both as wrestlers and friends," Lakeside Lutheran assistant wrestling coach Jerry Ewings said. "Any team would
be happy with this stable of horses. I'm very proud they're ours."

Junior Eric Schilling (130) remained unbeaten in conference with a second period pin over Waterloo sophomore Paul Kannenberg. Also winning by fall for the Warriors were sophomore Ryan Draeger (125), freshman Alex Schilling (135), junior Tim Norstrem (145), sophomore Mike Hartwig (152) and freshman heavyweight Travis Zimmerman. Waterloo (0-4 in conference) scored its two victories on the mat in the lower weights. Freshman Andrew Powell won a 19-10 major decision over Lakeside freshman Jake Stewart at 112, while sophomore Jacob Neiting pinned Lakeside sophomore Matt Borck in 1:59 at 119.
Lakeside Lutheran improved to 3-1 in conference with the victory and will host league leader Columbus (5-0) Thursday. Waterloo will return to
Lake Mills Thursday to face Lake Mills-Johnson Creek.

"Next week, we'll find out what we're made of," Lakeside Lutheran wrestling coach Jason Nickels said. "Columbus is coming to our house, and the strength of their lineup will face the strength of ours. If our seniors produce next week, we'll know we've got the heart of a champion."
