Aloha from paradise

On February 28, 2003.  I flew to Hawaii.

Hi, everybody!  Well, I made it to Hawaii.  My first weekend was long but I had a lot of fun.  Georgette, one of mom's best friends and the person who introduced Mom to Dad, picked me up Saturday afternoon for a cookout.  Sunday, she gave me a whirlwind tour of Oahu. For those of you who don't know, this was also my Dad's first assignment.  He, too, had requested Korea and, just like me,  he got Hawaii.  On Saturday, March 8, I will be surfing with Georgette'e niece.  Sweet!

My island tour on Sunday

Note the "pleated" mountains in the background. Hawaii's mountains are different from what is on the mainland.

Georgette and her granddaughter, Jerian

Georgette and Jerian did a great job of showing me around.

Georgette and Me

Georgette's a little shorter than I am (4'10" vs 6'5")

Me on the North Shore

Mom says I need to get rid of the black t-shirts and buy some Hawaiian shirts.

Jerian and Me

Shave ice is "ono" (good).

Matsumoto store

This is the best place in Hawaii for shave ice. They invented it. It's located in Haleiwa where Georgette grew up.

Nice ocean!

Can't wait to try surfing.

Jerian again

Think this was taken at Pupukea. You gotta love these Hawaiian names! Mom says she has another friend who grew up near here.

Sunny Hawaii

Okay, so I need some sunglasses in addition to a Hawaiian shirt!

Chow time

Had a day full of sightseeing and eating. Georgette really took good care of me.

Jerian and Me

Georgette loves to take pictures. You don't know generosity and hospitality until you've known Georgette.

Beautiful blue ocean with "those two" again

Wait til this weekend when I'm ssupposed to learn how to surf with Georgette's niece.

Again

Another picture but look at the scenery! It's sure not Wisconsin!

More

Would love to be on that beach in the background!

And Again!

What a great place!
