Marshall Final Score

Watertown Daily Times; 8 January 2004
MARSHALL -- Senior Mark Heyn's pin in 44 seconds against freshman Casey Meyer in the 215-pound match clinched the victory for Lakeside Lutheran, which edged out host Marshall 36-35 in a Capitol Conference wrestling meet Thursday.
Lakeside Lutheran (2-1 in conference) and Marshall split 14 matches, but the Warriors scored one more pin than the host Cardinals to secure the victory.
The dual began at 112 pounds, with Marshall winning the first two matches by technical fall and by pin to open up an 11-0 lead.  Alec Augustine-Marceil defeated Lakeside sophomore Matt Borck 17-2 in the opening match, though Borck's determination to avoid the pin turned out to be huge for the Warriors.
Lakeside used a 9-8 decision by sophomore Ryan Draeger over Marshall senior Nathan Kleinschmidt and forfeit points at 130 and 140 to pull to within 17-15.
"The impressive thing about Ryan's win was that he got pinned in the first period last year by Kleinschmidt," Lakeside Lurtheran wrestling coach Jason Nickels said.  "I'm really pleased with his progress."
At 145, Lakeside junior Tim Norstrem and Marshall freshman Nik Hannon scored enough points for an entire team.  They even put the scoreboard out of commission as it only can record 19 points for a wrestler in each match.  Hannon raced out to a 14-4 first period lead, threatening a technical fall before Norstrem battled back to outscore Hannon 9-4 in the second period and 9-5 in the third.  But Hannon held on for a 23-22 win.
The team lead changed hands from there as Lakeside Sophomore Mike Hartwig pinned Marshall sophomore Brandon Murray in 1 minutes, 23 seconds at 152 to give the Warriors their first lead at 21-20.  Marshall regained the lead one last time when senior Justin Powell edged Lakeside senior Justin Koller 6-4 to put the Cardinals up 23-21.
Lakeside took the lead for good from there with three straight wins by seniors in the upper weights.  At 171, John Rhodes pinned sophomore Dustin Mireles in 34 seconds.  Marc Liechty edged fellow senior Brett Blaschka 4-2.  At 215, Heyn clinched the meet for the Warriors with his quick pin over Meyer.
Marshall won the last two matches by fall but came up one point short.
Lakeside Lutheran hosts its first home dual meet of the season Thursday against Capitol Conference foe Waterloo.
