Support Our Troops

19 June 04:

It was a beautiful day and everything went as planned.  We started setting up around 8:00AM and were ready to go by 9:30.  Jonathan Green (from WTMJ AM620) did four call ins to the station and talked on the air with four different guys in the military who are over there. While Chris Liechty was not available, we did hear from two soldiers in his unit as well as Nathan Wells (in Iraq) and Brian Hafenstein (in Afghanistan).  Jonathan Green was fantastic. He would ask a question and then let the soldier speak.  Finally he'd ask them what they needed.  Whatever came out of their mouth would start arriving within 15 minutes.  People listening to WTMJ would hear what was needed and then buy it and drop it off.  This was some good stuff like packages of underwear that cost $20.  I think the highlight of the calls was when Jonathan asked Nathan Wells if he had any messages for anybody.  Nathan said that he wished a happy father's day to his father, Michael, and sent his love to his mom and relatives.

We received over 1,000 pounds of stuff
and
$550 in cash to buy even more!
